Security Alert: Kernel Side-Channel Attacks

4/1/2018

Red Hat has issued an important security announcement on the customer portal outlining a number of vulnerabilities with broad impact on the IT landscape. These vulnerabilities concern many CPU architectures and many of the operating systems that enable that hardware. Working with industry leaders, Red Hat has developed security updates for products in our portfolio to address these vulnerabilities.

All currently supported versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat OpenShift, Red Hat Virtualization and Red Hat OpenStack Platform are affected. Red Hat customers running affected versions of these products are strongly encouraged to apply security updates as soon as they’re available. We are working tirelessly with our partners to make these updates available, along with the information our customers need to quickly secure their physical systems, virtual images, and container-based deployments.

The nature of these vulnerabilities and their fixes introduces the possibility of reduced performance on patched systems. The performance impact depends on the hardware and the applications in place. We are actively working with our technology partners to reduce or eliminate these performance impacts as quickly as possible. And we will continue to work with these partners and security researchers to ensure timely responses to these and future vulnerabilities.
